The world is hectic, and the future is uncertain.
And when it comes to your finances and taxes, you are probably lost.
You ask:
Have I filed my taxes correctly?
Am I paying too much taxes?
Will I ever pay off my student loans?
Will I manage to pay for my kid’s college?
Will I have enough money to retire?
And so on, and so on…
You get anxiety by thinking of the future. And we get it. We were in your shoes.
That’s why we created the Owl’s Money Advice newsletter.
But first, let us tell you our story 😇
Our founder, Ben Martinek, and his wife, Deb, finished college and graduate school with a huge pile of student loans.
They finished their studies right at the beginning of the Great Recession of 2008. And the best thing?
Ben graduated with a master’s degree in philosophy, and Deb with a master’s degree in theology. Their job prospecting wasn’t great, to say the least.
So, Ben and Deb had no job and had a student loan burden of more than $100,000.
What did they do?
They decided to become over-the-road professional truck drivers, together!
Within three years, they paid off their student loans and stabilized their finances.
Gradually, Ben became obsessed with finances and taxes, spending hours and hours daily absorbing and studying financial literature.
Eventually, he became a Certified Financial Planner™ and an Enrolled Agent… among other certificates.
Now, let’s jump back into Owl’s Money Advice and how it will help you.
Owl’s Money Advice newsletter is a joint venture between our financial planning company, Bona Fide Finance and our sister company in tax preparation, Magni Tax Experts.
Our mission is simple: to bring you the best in financial and tax advice.
We aim to help you navigate the wild, uncertain world of personal finance with confidence and good sense.
At Bona Fide Finance, the philosophy is clear: “Bona Fide” means “in good faith.” This principle guides all the advice you'll find here at Owl’s Money Advice.
The future is unpredictable, and despite many attempts to foresee what lies ahead, no one can. Thus, the best approach is to prepare for the myriad possibilities that life may present.
Life, despite its apparent order, retains an element of wildness, and this perspective shapes everything in Owl’s Money Advice newsletter.
G.K. Chesterton captured this beautifully in his book, "Orthodoxy." He wrote,
“The real trouble with this world of ours is not that it is an unreasonable world, nor even that it is a reasonable one. The commonest kind of trouble is that it is nearly reasonable, but not quite. Life is not an illogicality; yet it is a trap for logicians. It looks just a little more mathematical and regular than it is; its exactitude is obvious, but its inexactitude is hidden; its wildness lies in wait.”
This quote is central to understanding the financial guidance provided here. While no one can predict the future, you can be prepared for whatever comes your way.
